Dogs need regular exercise, but it’s difficult to know the exact distance to walk with them because they can’t talk. The amount of time a dog needs to walk depends on your type of dog, and the age who they have attained. You wouldn’t want to take a puppy for long walks, as the pets will get tired due to weak bones that hasn’t fully developed for such. Older dogs can cover long distances while walking due to their form, and their pace which is almost the same with humans. Some dogs are naturally small and cannot grow more than their size because of the breed. These dogs will find it difficult to walk at long distances, as their pace will be like a puppy’s type.
Another thing to consider is what your dog loves doing, as some prefers running than walking. Therefore, if your pet lovers to run, there’s a possibility of the wouldn’t be able to walk long distances, and if he’s the walking type, they’ll do better than others. Again, the number of distance to cover while walking is up to their owner, a dog owner might decide to walk more at dawn, or during evening hours. Leaving your pet at home isn’t good enough because dogs easily get bored when kept at one place due to their nature which is exploring. Take them for walks most times, go to parks, visit interesting places that’ll keep them engaged, and exposed to things around the environment.
Interestingly, your dog doesn’t need to walk everyday while taking them for exercises. There are other activities that can be done in the process like running round the neighborhood, parks, and many more interesting things which seems exciting. Some times, it might be raining heavily or too sunny to go out for exercise, so indoor activities are also utilized here. Just like humans, dogs get tired after exercising, and they’ll likely not be energized to move like before. As you’re taking them for this movement, be observant enough to detect when your pet changes pace because this could be a sign of weakness. If there are any negative signs, take a break for some days for faster recovery.
Hyperactive behavior can also be seen in dogs, and it can be detected when they act with eagerness to go out, walk, run or do other recreational activities. If this occurs, take them for long walks for them to use that energy well. Another factor which determines the distance covered when strolling with your dog depends on your pace as the owner. If the pace is slow with younger or older dogs, they’ll get tired easily without covering a long distance. Again, if it’s a bigger dog, when you move briskly, they’ll follow without getting tired like the others.
Although, if the pet is fixed with a long leash, it’ll enable them strive for more, but if it’s on a short leash, the pet will keep struggling to be free. Through this, they’ll get tired and bored while strolling with their master. Generally, healthy pets need 30 to 60 minutes of walk everyday to keep them fit and strong as protectors. Since puppies are still young, exercises of some minutes should be effective for them. The older dogs don’t need much walks, so daily exercise of about 15 minutes is adequate for keeping fit.
Exercising is really an important thing in a dog’s life because without regular exercise, it’ll make them feel dull, and timid. If you’re strolling with your pet, and she’s always clinging to your side, or ahead of you by pulling the leash, it means the pet is walking according to your pace with extra. Practically, toys are thrown ahead at the dog’s watch to enable them move faster to grab it for the master. It’s a good way to make them sharp, always alert, move briskly and fetch things easily. After a walk with your dog, if they get back to sleep, it means their energy was efficiently used, but if signs of playful act are still seen, you’ll need to increase the walk period next time. Knowing the adequate distance is the best thing for your dog, as meeting their need is paramount, as they love company, attention, care and love from their owners.
